The plane never made it off runway 11 and into the air. The State has been leading the reporting, saying in part:
Officials said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane hurtled off the end of a runway and crashed through antennas and a fence. It came to rest on an embankment across a five-lane highway and was engulfed in flames, said Debbie Hersman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board.
Both were transported to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta and were listed in critical condition, and there's no word yet on what may have cause the crash.
The pair had recently performed at Columbia's Five Points that night before some 10,000 (View photos, or video) and the news of the crash came before many concert goers had even left the area, and caused the scene to turn into an impromptu memorial.
