Tax collections are up, but occupancy numbers are down. What gives?
We covered how this could be the case earlier this week. The truth is- nobody knows exactly how many people visit the beach. We can only rely on the data that the hotels report to us. But it's hard to argue with tax collection numbers which are a direct result from spending. Then the debate turns to if the increased spending is a direct result of the Chamber's marketing efforts partially funded from the controversial tourism development fee.
