Candidates for the upcoming Beaufort City Council election met with the Old Commons Neighborhood Association last night.
Two candidates, Mike McFee and George O'Kelley, are up for reelection. The third candidate, Pete Palmer, committed to the concept that no one should slide into subsequent terms in office without some challenge. Palmer stated he was not running against issues but running for something.
That "something" became clear as each candidate addressed the audience: They care deeply about our city and the quality of life available to us.
Good conversation between the candidates and members of the community was had during the question and answer session. Topics addressed were the upcoming Boundary Street redesign, the new Form Based Code, security and parking in downtown Beaufort, as well as storm water drain off.
I encourage you to get to know our candidates. There will be a forum to help the community do so at the Technical College of the Lowcountry on Thursday, November 1, that is well worth putting on our calendars.
